26.2 miles of utter insanity.

so, I registered and started training for my first marathon, which is to be run in October. does anyone else here run marathons? I am looking for all of the wisdom and advice I can get!

As far as preparation, take it slow. If you run daily, just try to run a little further everyday. Also, completely understand that nothing you can do will fully prepare you for the run... its just a lot of work.

The greatest reward is knowing you've done it though, it's a very satisfying feeling. Unfortunately since I started smoking I can't run marathons anymore.

My personal wisdom about running: I only run to catch a bus or a thief!
But congratulations, I think it will be a great accomplishment!

thanks, guys!

I am not running daily. I have three shorter [4-8 mile] runs each week, and one long [10-23 mile] run. so, most of my runs are completely managable, which is nice. I am also integrating some cross-training, such as swimming and cycling in to my week. I try to take one rest day each week as well.

Hey, I more or less quit smoking a few years ago, and I still refuse to run! :-)
